I am running for re-election to continue serving as your State House Representative in Alamance County. Since 2020, I’ve prioritized the needs of folks at the frontlines of serving our community, including students, parents, teachers, healthcare workers, and small business owners. I recognize people are hurting from inflation. They are frustrated–with the pandemic recovery and with politics. But from day one, my goal has been to be part of the solution for our community, not the problem. More unites us than divides us, and in this moment, we need bridge builders who will bring us together and forge a brighter future for Alamance County.”
Representative Ricky Hurtado
As your Representative, Ricky Hurtado will continue to…
Fight for essential workers and an economy that works for everyone.
Ricky is a champion of workers in Alamance, fighting for the rights and fair compensation of workers who are the backbone of our community, including doctors, nurses, healthcare and food service workers, warehouse employees, and state employees. Ricky supported legislation to promote firefighters’ and police officers’ health and well-being. Ricky will continue to champion all essential workers and fight to take care of them in the same way they take care of us.
Invest in childcare and our public schools.
As your Representative, Ricky fought for and secured raises for teachers, bus drivers, custodians, and food service workers. He has championed more funding to address the teacher shortage crisis and create safe learning environments. He is also fighting to make sure families don’t have to choose between their job and early childhood education by making it more accessible and affordable.
Support common-sense gun safety measures.
Gun violence is on the rise in Alamance County, putting our community’s safety at risk. Ricky supports common-sense measures such as requiring background checks, raising the minimum age to purchase a gun, and keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people who pose a threat to themselves or others. He will continue to fight for mental health programs in schools and laws that keep guns off our school campuses.
Prioritize small business owners.
Ricky knows small businesses are the foundation of our community and economy. In his first year, he introduced legislation to provide tax incentives for small businesses to hire more local workers in order to help restaurants and other businesses impacted by COVID-19. Ricky is working to prioritize investments in our small businesses owners, not corporations and their soaring profits.
Defend reproductive freedom and access to essential health care.
When Roe v. Wade was overturned, state houses became the frontline of the fight for reproductive rights. Ricky is committed to defending the right of women to access the full range of health care services, including abortion and contraceptives. Abortion should remain safe, legal, and accessible in North Carolina.
Combat the housing crisis.
Alamance County is facing a housing crisis that is only getting worse. Rent and housing prices are skyrocketing and working families are getting pushed out of their communities. Ricky will fight to bring more affordable housing solutions to North Carolina and expand housing assistance for working families.
Expand health care access and mental health services.
All North Carolinians deserve quality health care they can afford, and especially people with mental illness and substance use disorders. North Carolina is one of only thirteen states that has not expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. Ricky will push to expand Medicaid, meaning over 10,000 new people would be covered by insurance in Alamance County.
Push for greater investments in renewable energy.
Now more than ever, it is clear investing in renewable energy and electric vehicles is not just good for our environment—it is good for our economy, too. As your Representative, Ricky will continue to push for policies that will help us gain energy independence, lower the burden of utility bills, and make electric vehicles more accessible in the future.
Restore our democracy.
We must end gerrymandering and voter suppression in North Carolina. Ricky is committed to making it easier, not harder, for people to vote through automatic voter registration. He is also committed to ending gerrymandering for good by implementing nonpartisan, independent redistricting to ensure voters are choosing their elected officials, not the other way around.
